OLE MISS WRAPUP
Extended curfew: After the dressing room celebration by the Rebels quieted down, head coach Rob Evans turned to team captain John Jackson and let him make the call.
“John, what time is curfew tonight?” asked Evans, whose club’s usual curfew hours are 10 p.m. weekdays and 11:30 p.m. on weekends. “I’ll let you decide.”
Jackson, who was one of four Rebels who missed Wednesday’s game with Auburn for missing the curfew, looked at his teammates and smiled. “How about 1 o’clock, coach? Just for tonight and none of us will miss it.”
Evans, whose stern expression is customary, broke into a smile and agreed. The players cheered.
Game notes: Senior Ervin Garnes and junior Kenny Davis, a pair of guards, didn’t play. Evans said, “They aren’t being punished. But the flow of the game was going good with what we had and I didn’t want to interrupt it.” … Five Rebels Jason Smith, Anthony Boone, Michael White, Keith Carter, Joezon Darby played 30-plus minutes. Each are freshmen or sophomores. … Alabama assistant coach Bob Marlin is a native of Tupelo. … Ole Miss generated 21 points off Alabama turnovers, while the Crimson Tide managed to generate only five off Ole Miss turnovers.
Who’s Next: Ole Miss visits Tennessee Wednesday for a 6:30 p.m. tipoff before traveling to LSU Saturday.
