Olive Branch ex-football coach sues principal, district

football_icon_greenOLIVE BRANCH (AP) – Former Olive Branch High School football coach Scott Samsel is suing to get back his old job.

The Commercial Appeal of Memphis reports that the 52-year-old Samsel alleges that the DeSoto County school district and Principal Allyson Killough discriminated against him because of his age and violated his right to free speech.

Samsel sued Friday in the federal district court in Oxford.

Samsel says he was ousted from a successful program by a young, inexperienced principal who named a young, lower-level coach to replace him.

Board attorney Keith Treadway says the board cannot comment on pending litigation.

Samsel, who previously was head coach at Lafayette High School, was reassigned to teach history at a school for students with disciplinary problems. He says he never reported because of anxiety, stress and elevated blood pressure caused by the reassignment.
