Magnolia crappie stocked in state lakes
The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks Fisheries Bureau stocked approximately 18,000 Magnolia crappie in five state fishing lakes this week.
The Magnolia crappie were raised at the North Mississippi Fish Hatchery and are a hybrid species best known for having fast growth rates.
MDWFP State Fishing Lakes that received Magnolia crappie were Lake Mike Conner, Lake Claude Bennett, Prentiss Walker Lake, Simpson County Lake and Lake Jeff Davis.
Lake Jeff Davis is located is located in Jefferson County near Prentiss and is currently closed for renovation.
The lake is expected to reopen during 2013.
Lifetime license to be given away Nov. 15
Hunters and fishermen who purchase a 2013 Sportsman License will automatically be entered into a drawing for a Lifetime Sportsman License.
The drawing, sponsored by the Foundation for Mississippi, Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks, will be held on Nov. 15, and the winner will be notified by email. Participants must purchase their 2013 Sportsman License by midnight on Nov. 14 to be entered into the drawing.
The Resident Lifetime Sportsman License is a $1,000 value and includes the sportsman, WMA user permit and saltwater privileges. The winner may transfer the license to a qualifying Mississippi resident if he or she chooses.
