JACKSON – Two lake bass fishing records were set recently.
Lake Calling Panther near Crystal Springs had its largemouth bass record broken for the second time in a month.
Collin Slay, a 15-year-old Crystal Springs resident, caught a 13.7-pound lunker on a shiner in 12 feet of water. The fish was 25 inches long and 21 inches in girth.
Another record fell at Lake Lincoln State Park near Wesson. During a bass club tournament, Chad Briggs weighed in an 11-pound, 4-ounce largemouth and won the tournament with a five-fish total of more than 30 pounds.
Ron Garavelli, the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks Fisheries Bureau chief, said both lakes can produce quality fish.
“It’s always exciting when we have a record set at a lake, and both of these are excellent lakes,” Garavelli said. “It wouldn’t surprise me if we have a few more set this spring.”
