Patterson leaves MSU; Mullen expects attrition

STARKVILLE – Montario Patterson, a Biggersville running back and defensive back who redshirted his freshman year, has left the Mississippi State football team.
First-year coach Dan Mullen said in a statement Thursday that Patterson has “decided to pursue opportunities away from the Mississippi State football team.”
Patterson is the second player this spring to leave the team – the Daily Journal reported last week that cornerback Anthony Johnson, who was still on indefinite suspension, is planning to transfer.
In an interview with the Journal earlier in the day, Mullen said he expected some some attrition during the continuing transition from the Sylvester Croom era.
“From top to bottom, everything’s different,” Mullen said, “and so when you look at those things, some of those guys, they’re not willing to put in the time or the sacrifices or all the things and demands that we’re asking of them for us to build a championship program.”
