CALHOUN CITY WIN SETS UP REMATCH
Calhoun City moved on in the Class 2A playoffs with a 48-18 road win at Mound Bayou JFK.
The Wildcats will host Eupora Friday. It will be the second meeting between the two. Calhoun City handed the Eagles their only loss of the season in a 27-6 loss in September.
Calhoun City QB Chakel Gates scored on runs of 1 and 30 for the Wildcats (9-4) Friday.
“I was very pleased with our team. They played hard and did the things it takes to win games,” Calhoun City coach Perry Liles said.
BRUCE 35, EAST WEBSTER 7: Tae Armstrong scored two TDs for Bruce (10-3), which will host West Bolivar Friday.
Armstrong scored on two fourth-quarter passes from Davis Brown (39, 42).
Wilbur O’Bryant scored the only TD for East Webster (9-4).
OXFORD 27, PROVINE 14: Courtland Barnes ran for a pair of touchdowns to lead the Chargers (11-1), who led 17-14 at halftime. The Chargers will travel to Starkville for a second round 5A game next Friday.
WEST POINT 38, CANTON 0: The Green Wave (10-2) got a pair of long touchdowns runs from Tez Lane (34, 52) and pitched the shutout in the Class 5A playoff opener. West Point will host Ridgeland next Friday.
NOXUBEE COUNTY 14, LAFAYETTE 0: The two-time Class 4A champions saw their season come to an end in the second round, against the state’s top-ranked 4A team.
COFFEEVILLE 35, VARDAMAN 21: The Rams (8-4) saw their season end with a loss in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs. They also lost to Coffeeville (6-6) in the regular season, 48-0.
GREENVILLE ST. JOE 38, SMITHVILLE 6: St. Joe scored its points off of six Smithville turnovers.
