Playoffs roundup: Wilcher hits five homers for Kossuth

Kossuth outfielder Jacob Wilcher had a banner day Friday in his team’s play-in series sweep of O’Bannon.

Wilcher had five homers and Kossuth swept 19-0, 10-0.

Next up, a first-round series against Louisville.

Booneville 15-15, East Side 0-0: Booneville had 18 hits in two games to sweep a Class 3A play-in baseball series against visiting Cleveland East Side.

Daniel Calvery, Cade Scroggins and Joseph Caver had multiple hits in the two games.

Calvery no-hit East Side in three innings.

Booneville (18-9) plays Water Valley next week in a first-round series.

Mantachie 11-15, Potts Camp 1-4: Austin Byrd homered in the second game as the Mustangs (8-14) advanced to play Leland next week in a first-round series.

Calhoun City 10-14, Riverside 0-0: The Wildcats rolled to a doubleheader sweep in their 2A play-in series. Next up, a first-round series Baldwyn.

Itawamba AHS 6, Yazoo Co. 1: The Indians had just three hits, two by Trevan Quigley, but scored enough runs to sweep their 4A series. Next up, a first-round series against West Lauderdale.

Tupelo 8, Louisville 3: In a non-playoff game, Michael Ray and Ty Wheeler had multiple hits to lead 6A top-seeded Golden Wave past the 3A top-seeded Wildcats.

Tupelo plays Madison Central or Horn Lake in a first-round series next week while Louisville plays defending state champion Kossuth.

All first-round best-of-three game baseball series are scheduled to be played Thursday, Friday and Saturday, if needed.

North Pontotoc 13, Independence 6: The Lady Vikings (21-6) advanced to Monday’s first-round series opener against O’Bannon.
