Prentiss, Union counties’ hoops tournaments to get underway today

By John Wilbert/NEMS Daily Journal

This week’s winter weather only managed to push back the start of the Prentiss County Basketball Tournament one day.
Earlier this week there was concern over whether the annual basketball tourney would be played this season because of the road conditions in Prentiss County after Sunday’s winter storm and the fact that division games had to be played next week. The division tournaments begin on Feb. 7.
Baldwyn boys coach Jason McKay confirmed around 5 p.m. Wednesday that the tournament will start at 4 this afternoon in his school’s gymnasium. Four games in all will be played by the end of today (see the schedule on this page).
Two games were originally scheduled to be played Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the Union County Tournament will go on as previously planned, with three games being played tonight in Myrtle.
