Are you ready for some high school hoops? Basketball season tipped off this week with MHSAA Classic games, but the true season begins Tuesday.
Tupelo High School is hosting a four-game Tip-Off Challenge featuring New Hope’s girls and boys against Center Hill, starting with the girls game at 4 p.m.
The Lady Wave and Golden Wave host West Point at 7 and 8:30.
Later in the week, Pontotoc is hosting a three-day Judge Little Sporting Goods Shootout. It all starts Thursday with two games: Houston vs. Ripley girls and Pontotoc vs. Houston boys.
The Friday lineup has the Pontotoc vs. Houlka girls and Houlka vs. Green (Ark.) Tech.
Nine games are scheduled for Saturday, starting at 10 a.m. One of the day’s highlights features the Pontotoc girls against Oxford at 7:20 p.m.
Some schools have games scheduled for Friday, Nov. 15 that might be changed because of the football playoffs.
Tupelo – whose football team is in the playoffs – moved its Nov. 15 home basketball games against Mooreville and home soccer matches against Saltillo to Nov. 14.

Biggersville’s Watson out with knee injury
Defending Class 1A state champ Biggersville is expected to be right back in the mix when the season tips off Saturday against Aberdeen in the Nettleton Classic.
But there is one missing piece that coach Cliff Little says is bigger than most realize.
Senior forward Marquis Watson is recovering from surgery to repair a torn ACL. He suffered the injury in the season’s first football scrimmage and had surgery in September.
“If everybody doesn’t realize what we’re missing, they don’t know our team,” Little said.
Watson doesn’t get the attention of some of his teammates, but Little says his loss is already being felt.
“We’re a totally different team without him. If he’s not back the second half, it won’t be because he didn’t work his tail off,” Little said.
MHSAA title games scheduled for Dec. 6-7
Playoffs? Are you kidding me? Playoffs?
Yes, starting tonight, the football postseason kicks off in Classes 2A, 3A and 4A. Next week, 1A, 5A and 6A will join the mix.
The goal is to reach Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium Dec. 6-7 for the state championship games.
Here’s the lineup: Dec. 6 – (1A) 11 a.m., (2A) 3 p.m., (6A) 7:30 p.m.; Dec. 7 – (3A) 11 a.m., (4A) 3 p.m., (5A) 7:30 p.m.
