The 2011 American Legion Baseball state tournament will conclude this evening at Tupelo’s Golden Wave Field.
The final series was moved after getting rained out on Sunday in Hattiesburg. The move to Tupelo was made since both teams were from Northeast Mississippi.
The Tupelo 49ers need to beat the defending state champions, the Pontotoc Red Sox, just once tonight to win the state championship. After having lost 11-0 to the 49ers in the wee hours of Saturday morning in Hattiesburg, the Sox (27-5) will need to beat the 49ers (24-8) twice to clinch the title.
The teams played once in the regular season, with Pontotoc winning at home.
First pitch is set for 6 tonight and, if necessary, a second game will immediately follow.
