FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Steady rain forced a suspension of Friday night’s series-opening game between Mississippi State and Arkansas at Baum Stadium.
The Razorbacks built up a 10-3 advantage over the Bulldogs and had drawn a lead-off walk in the fifth inning when play was halted at 8:11 p.m. by home plate umpire Jack Cox.
The game will be completed today at 2:05 p.m., to be followed by a second game.
Arkansas struck for three runs in the first inning, the first on a solo home run by Scott Lyons, then extended their lead by sending 10 batters to the plate in a seven-run third. The spree opened with a two-run home run by Travis Temple and ended with a three-run blast by Ryan Cisterna.
All 10 runs, eight earned, were charged to freshman Devin Jones, a late substitute for scheduled Friday starter Tyler Whitney.
