OXFORD – The initial heavy rains didn’t last long, but they packed enough punch to wash out Game 1 of the Ole Miss-MSU series and perhaps take away the Rebels’ ace in the process.
The game was suspended after one half inning of play with no score and the Rebels getting ready to bat.
The Rebels and Bulldogs will resume Game 1 at 3 p.m., today and will play Game 2 40 minutes after the conclusion of the first game.
Game 3 is scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m.
An Ole Miss spokesman said Rebels coach Mike Bianco will evaluate Bobby Wahl today before deciding if he will pitch.
Wahl, who sports an SEC ERA of 0.92, was very clean in the top of the first.
He allowed a two-out baserunner when Hunter Renfroe reached on an error, but struck out three other batters, two of them looking.
The delay began at 6:42 p.m., and standing water was quickly visible across wide areas of straight-away center field and left-center field.
MSU left-hander Luis Pollorena warmed up, but the game was called before he threw a pitch.
