OXFORD – With the start of the 2009 football season still almost two months away, Ole Miss officials announced Tuesday that individual game sales for home games with Alabama, LSU and Tennessee are no longer being accepted, due to the limited number of tickets remaining for those games.
“The only avenue currently available for those three games is by purchasing a season ticket,” said Senior Executive Associate Athletics Director John Hartwell, who also announced that Ole Miss has exhausted its entire supply of north end zone season tickets. A limited number of sideline and south end zone season tickets are still available.
“We have been pleased with the early response of our fans for season tickets,” Hartwell added. “Counting our student season ticket allotment, we have already exceeded the 40,000 mark in season ticket sales.”
Ole Miss is coming off a 9-4 season which saw Coach Houston Nutt’s Rebels win their final six games, including a 47-34 victory over Texas Tech in the AT&T Cotton Bowl, and earn a final No. 14 national ranking.
The 2008 campaign was Nutt’s first season at the helm of the Ole Miss program as he directed one of the greatest turnarounds in school history, reviving a Rebel squad that was coming off four straight losing seasons and a 3-8 campaign with no conference wins in 2007. It marked the team’s best improvement from one season to the next since legendary Ole Miss coach John Vaught’s debut in 1947.
The excitement of last year’s success has carried over heading into the 2009 season as the Rebels now find themselves ranked in most top 10 preseason polls.
“We appreciate the preseason respect we’re getting, but the only way you can get better is to work with passion every day,” Nutt said. “As coaches, our antennas are up to make sure our players understand that if you think you’re working hard, you’re probably not working hard enough. You have to earn your wins, and the bull’s eye is a little larger than it was before.”
Persons wishing to purchase season tickets may do so online in the OleMissSports.com ticket office ot through the Ole Miss athletics ticket office by calling 1-888-732-8587.
