Rebels' Bianco confident Indians will make a deal with top pick Pomeranz

Ole Miss head coach Mike Bianco said he expects to see Rebels ace Drew Pomeranz in the Cleveland Indians’ fold before long. The Indians have about three weeks to work out the details.
Pomeranz was Cleveland’s first-round pick – fifth overall – in the June amateur draft.
“I think he’s ready,” Bianco told the Cleveland Plain-Dealer Newspaper over the weekend. “He wants to sign. That’s fair to say. Now it becomes a business. He’s been here playing baseball, but now it becomes a career.”
The Indians, like other big-league teams, have until Aug. 16 to sign Pomeranz – as well as their other 2010 picks – or his rights will pass over to the 2011 amateur draft.
Cleveland has yet to sign any of its first five picks, but the pace of negotiating usually picks up as Aug. 1 approaches.
