KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Austin Wright turned in a solid performance on the mound Sunday afternoon and the Ole Miss bats gave him plenty of support in an 8-0 victory,
The victory gave Ole Miss (18-7, 3-3 SEC) its first conference series win of the season. Six of the Rebels’ last eight wins have come by shutout.
Wright (3-2) worked eight innings, striking out eight and walking one while limiting the Vols to four hits.
“Austin Wright was terrific,” said Ole Miss coach Mike Bianco. “He attacked the zone and was very aggressive.”
Ole Miss won 6-1 on Friday and lost 6-4 on Saturday. It was the first shutout loss of the season for Tennessee (18-6, 2-4).
“It was good to go on the road and win a series,” Bianco said. “It’s tough to win on the road in the SEC. It was also nice to see us respond to a Saturday loss with a win and come back to win the series.”
The Rebels got all the runs they needed in the first, on a bases-loaded grounder by Matt Tracy and a Alex Yarbrough RBI single.
