TUPELO – With a roster that includes players from 16 states and Canada, when the Ole Miss hockey team scattered for the holidays, it really scattered.
“Everybody was on their own, all over the country and doing their own thing,” coach Angelo Rosena said this week. “We were playing pretty well before the break, but Tuesday was our first practice since early December.”
The Rebels will take on Mississippi State in a pair of games, tonight and Saturday, at BancorpSouth Arena. Admission is $6, and the puck drops at 7:30 p.m.
“We’re anticipating good crowds for both games,” said arena manager Todd Hunt. Previous matchups here between the state-rival club teams have drawn several thousand fans.
Ole Miss is 11-6-1 overall, splitting a pair of shootout games with Alabama on Dec. 6-7 in its last action. Mississippi State is winless in six games, having lost twice to Tulane in matches at the BCS Arena in early December.
Ole Miss breezed in a pair of games against MSU last season in Tupelo, winning 17-1 and 20-0.
“With so many new guys, it’s a new year,” Rosena said. “We’re not thinking about the past.”
The Rebels have a four-game winning streak in the series. The last MSU win was 6-3 in Southaven in 2010.
