Rebels, Bulldogs in tennis nationals

The Mississippi State men and both Ole Miss tennis teams are in the field for the NCAA tournaments that begin next week.

MSU was assigned to the Austin, Texas, regional and play Louisiana.-Lafayette on Friday, May 9. Host Texas and Marist play in the other first-round match there.

ULL is coached by a former MSU standout player, Mark Jeffrey.

The Ole Miss men were assigned to a regional at South Bend, Ind., and will play Northwestern on May 9. Notre Dame plays Green Bay in the other match,

The Ole Miss women will head to Los Angeles to meet Texas Tech on May 9. UCLA and Sacramento State are also at that site.

The Southern Cal men and Georgia women are the top tourney seeds.

NCAA golf

The Mississippi State women’s team is headed to the NCAA regionals for a second consecutive season.

The Bulldogs will be the 11th seed at the Central Regional at Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Okla. Last season, Ally McDonald (Fulton) won the individual regional title as MSU finished third and earned its first NCAA championship tournament appearance.

Sophomore Abby Newton of Ole Miss has been invited to the East Regional in Tallahassee, Fla.

The NCAA men’s golf tourney field will be announced next Monday.
