OXFORD – There were two pleasant surprises for the Ole Miss football team Thursday.
The first was that a storm pushed the first workout indoors.
The second surprise was that the second workout was cancelled. Rebels coach Houston Nutt gave his team the afternoon off for some orchestrated leisure activities.
“We’re a little leg weary and we have a lot of guys fighting through some things, so we decided to make our early practice the full pad one today,” Nutt said.
One player back from the injured list was middle linebacker Mike Marry. Nutt said Marry had a “physical” day of work and didn’t show too much sign of missing time with a hamstring pull.
One player again not at practice was freshman cornerback Senquez Golson. He is expected to be at today’s practice, Nutt said. Today’s work won’t be as physical as over the last two days as the team gets ready for its second major scrimmage of camp, Saturday night at 6 following fan day activities.
The scrimmage will last for slightly more than 100 plays. It will be inside Vaught-Hemingway Stadium and will be open to the public.
“The scrimmage will be big for us in determining the pecking order for several positions that are real close right now. We’re looking forward to seeing who’s going to take a step for us and keep coming,” Nutt said.
