TUPELO – Ice hockey returns to the BancorpSouth Arena for the second time in three weeks tonight and Saturday with doubleheaders featuring Mississippi State and Ole Miss.
The Rebels take the ice first at 6 p.m. today against Arkansas followed by the Bulldogs versus Alabama. MSU faces Memphis to open Saturday’s action at 5 p.m. Ole Miss and Alabama play at 8.
Admission is $12 per day or $20 for a weekend pass good for all four games.
Mississippi State is seeking its first victory after an 0-6 start, which includes a sweep by Tennessee in Tupelo two weeks ago.
The Bulldogs’ other four losses were on the road and without a full roster. MSU expects to have its complete roster available this weekend, however, according to coach Cole Klubek.
“We want our fans to see a full hockey experience. That’s our main priority,” he said. “With a full roster, we should get our first win hopefully.”
Team captain Chris Moore and R.C. Martin, who had a hat trick against Tennessee, lead Mississippi State in goals.
Rebels back in town
Ole Miss hits the Tupelo ice for the first time since sweeping Mississippi State last November. The Rebels (7-8) are glad to be playing close to home after road trips to Michigan and Florida this season.
“For us that makes a world of a difference,” said Ole Miss coach Kristian Skou. “Not just financially, but the fans give the players a little extra energy and push to get through the game.”
Cameron Cook and Lee Edelman have eight goals apiece to lead Ole Miss, which is coming off a program best 22-win season. Senior Leo Cuzin has eleven assists to go with seven goals.
MSU and Ole Miss are scheduled to play each other Jan. 18-19 at the BCS Arena.
