More Rebels: ‘Rebels venture to Arkansas, seek season sweep’

OXFORD – A weekend sweep of North Carolina-Wilmington helped the Rebels jump four spots to 16th on Monday in the latest release of the Baseball America Top 25.
The Rebels’ strong pitching, led by starter Bobby Wahl in a 2-0 win on Friday, held off the Seahawks in a 6-4 win on Saturday and collected 16 hits in a 10-5 come-from-behind win on Sunday.
Ole Miss (5-1) has won four straight and is back in action at 3 p.m., today against Memphis. The Rebels take on Jackson State Wednesday night at 6:30 and are at home again this weekend against Miami-Ohio.
Zach Kirksey, Will Allen and Matt Snyder had three hits each in Sunday’s win over the Seahawks, Alex Yarbrough, Tanner Mathis and Andrew Mistone two each.
“It’s neat that there are different stars. Snyder continues to swing, and Yarbrough continues to swing. Then Mistone and (Auston) Bousfield, and it just seems that from day to day there are different stars. And that’s what you need to have a good offense,” Ole Miss coach Mike Bianco said.
Bousfield, the freshman center fielder, was 3 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored in Saturday’s game.
Memphis at ,500
Coached by former Mississippi State assistant Daren Schoenrock, Memphis is 3-3 after taking two of three against Kennesaw State over the weekend.
The Tigers lost two of three to Southern Illinois-Edwardsville on opening weekend.
The Tigers are hitting .308 and bring a 4.50 earned run average into today’s game.
Ole Miss will start freshman right-hander Sam Smith, who is 1-0 with a 1.69 ERA in 51/3 innings over two appearances.
Redshirt junior Michael Wills starts for Memphis, which visits Mississippi State on Wednesday.
The games are coming quickly for the Rebels.
“It’s the grind. We’ve worked six or seven months for this. You’ve got to enjoy the grind. You’ve got to enjoy that just about every day now you’re coming to the ballpark and putting on the uniform and playing,” Bianco said.
