The matchups for the annual SEC/Big East Challenge were announced Friday, with both Ole Miss and Mississippi State playing on Dec. 1. The Rebels will be at home versus Rutgers, while the Bulldogs will travel to Providence.
Ole Miss is coming off a 20-14 season in which it lost in the first round of the NIT. Under second-year coach Mike Rice, Rutgers went 14-18 last season, including a 6-12 mark in Big East play. This will be the first meeting between the two teams.
MSU and Providence haven’t met before, either. The Bulldogs, 21-12 last season with a first-round NIT exit, are led by new coach Rick Ray. It’ll be a long road trip to Rhode Island to face a Providence squad that went 15-17 (4-14 Big East) in coach Ed Cooley’s first season.
Ole Miss is 1-1 in this event, which is entering its sixth year, while MSU is 2-1.
