Rebels 'in shape' as preseason practice begins

OXFORD – The Ole Miss baseball Rebels begin practice today with the first of three intrasquad scrimmages set for the weekend.
The Rebels 30-25, 13-17 in the SEC last season and had a string of eight-straight postseason appearances snapped.
With a class of signees ranked in the top five by both Baseball America and Collegiate Baseball, the Rebels begin the season ranked No. 22 in the Baseball America Top 25.
“We’ve been doing skill work,and it’s been going great,” Bianco said. “I’m really pleased with the shape the players returned to campus in after a long layoff. It’s obvious they were working hard over the break on their own hitting and throwing and in the weight room.
Junior infielder Alex Yarbrough, an All-SEC selection after hitting .350 last season, is among six returning starters.
Ole Miss will open the 2012 season on the road, beginnging a three-game series at No. 9 TCU on Feb. 17.
