Rebels' Morgan To Miss 2010 Season With Injury

Ole Miss junior right-hander Jake Morgan will miss the 2010 baseball season due to an elbow injury, head coach Mike Bianco announced on Tuesday.

Morgan, a closer on the pitching staff for the Rebels, tore his ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow and will have reconstructive surgery next week. The surgical procedure is also known as “Tommy John” surgery.

As a sophomore, Morgan posted a 4-1 record with nine saves and a 3.24 ERA as one of the top closers in the Southeastern Conference.

The right-hander struck out 55 batters and walked only seven while allowing 15 earned runs in 41.2 innings of work.

Morgan posted wins over Liberty, Central Arkansas, Memphis and fifth-ranked Virginia in the NCAA Super Regional. His nine saves came against Alabama, Kentucky, New Orleans, South Carolina, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi State, Auburn and Western Kentucky in the NCAA Regional.
