Rebels rained out leading Hogs 6-1

OXFORD – Today’s Ole Miss spring football game now has competition from across campus.
The series opener between No. 22 Ole Miss and No. 17 Arkansas (27-10, 8-7 SEC) was suspended with the Rebels leading 6-1 in the top of the fourth due to inclement weather and will resume at 2 p.m. today.
The second game of the series remains scheduled for 4 p.m.
The Grove Bowl at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium is at 1 p.m.
When play resumes, Arkansas catcher Jake Wise will be at the plate with a 3-1 count. Left fielder Brian Anderson is on first after a walk, and there are two outs.
The rain delay began at 7:33 p.m., and the game was suspended 28 minutes later.
Ole Miss (25-12, 7-8 SEC) built its overnight advantage with clutch two-out hitting. The Rebels scored four runs with two outs in the first two innings and ran Arkansas starter Brandon Moore after just 21⁄3 innings. Moore entered with a 0.95 ERA but allowed six runs on seven hits.
Matt Snyder hit a two-run home run in the first inning after Alex Yarbrough reached on a hard grounder past Arkansas thrid baseman Bo Bigham.
In the second inning, Tanner Mathis drove in Auston Bousfield with a single, and Yarbrough hit a two-out double that scored Mathis and Andrew Mistone, who singled and moved Bousfield to third on a hit-and-run.
Zach Kirksey had a RBI single in the third.
Ole Miss starter Bobby Wahl allowed four hits and one run in 32⁄3 innings. His weekend is likely done. He had four strikeouts and one walk.
Razorbacks reliever Randall Fant replaced Moore and retired two batters to finish the Rebels’ third inning.
Arkansas right fielder Sam Bates hit a solo home run to start the second inning for Arkansas’ lone run.
Ole Miss sophomore right-hander Mike Mayers (3-2, 4.15 ERA) and Arkansas sophomore right-hander Ryne Stanek (6-1, 2.41) will be the starting pitchers for the 4 p.m. game.
