OXFORD – The Rebels continued to find ways to win, rallying again at home as Ole Miss (18-4) defeated Arkansas State (11-9) by a score of 4-3 Wednesday night behind a seventh-inning rally.
The Rebels pushed two runs home in the seventh, using an RBI single from Dalton Dulin to tie the game and later executing a squeeze bunt from Braxton Lee that brought Dulin home to take the one-run lead on the way to the win.
Scott Weathersby (1-0) picked up the win in relief, working 2 1⁄3 scoreless innings with a career-high five strikeouts.
He did not allow a hit or a walk in his time on the mound. Josh Laxer then picked up his second save of the season, working the ninth to preserve the win.
Colton Kibler (0-1) took the loss in relief, allowing two runs in 1 1/3 innings of relief work on four hits.
“(Scott) Weathersby was terrific,” said Ole Miss head coach Mike Bianco. “He came in at the right time. It looked like they wanted him to play a lot more than we did at the start tonight and that’s disappointing.
“We got the arm that we needed when Scott came in there. We got the game back and the momentum back in our dugout. It was a big-time performance.”
Ole Miss scored in the first after executing a double steal.
