Rebels’ Sam Kendricks wins Texas pole vault

Ole Miss pole vaulter Sam Kendricks, a sophomore from Oxford, is on top of the pole vaulting world after his performance on Friday at
the Texas Relays.
Kendricks cleared 19-0.75 to win the event. That’s the best pole vault effort in the world this season, the best height by a collegiate vaulter since 1998, a school record and No. 5 on the all-time collegiate list.
“Sam had an incredible night,” Ole Miss coach Brian O’Neal said. “I’ve been involved in track and field for over 20 years, and this is the first time I’ve seen someone get a standing ovation after the competition.”
Also in Texas, Rebels sophomore Haley Cutright won the women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase with a school-record 10:21.60,
and junior Kayleigh Skinner finished third in the 10,000 meters with a school-record 35:44.06.
