OXFORD – Ole Miss baseball coach Mike Bianco has an unexpected opening on his staff and two fewer players on his roster.
Assistant coach and recruiting coordinator Rob Reinstetle cited “personal reasons” in resigning his position on Friday effective immediately.
“In the best interests of my family, this was a decision I felt I had to make,” Reinstetle said.
Reinstetle came to Ole Miss after spending the 2006 season as the recruiting coordinator at South Alabama. While at South Alabama, Reinstetle helped lead the Jaguars to a post-season appearance in the NCAA Oxford Regional.
“We would like to thank Rob Reinstetle for the work he did with our program over the past three and a half years,” Bianco said. “We have experienced success under his tenure as an assistant coach and a recruiting coordinator, and we wish him well.”
Bianco declined further comment but did confirm that two newcomers were dismissed Friday for undisclosed team rules violations.
Freshmen Zach Lowery and Evan Frazar both had productive falls. Frazar would have been in the mix for playing time in the infield, Lowery in the outfield. One publication ranked both players among the nation’s top 121 prospects.
Reinstetle was a part of three NCAA tournament teams, two that reached the super regional round. The Rebels were 44-20 last year and earned a share of the SEC overall title with a 20-10 mark.
