The Rebels put up 463 yards on a team giving up just 262.9 yards a game, third in the nation.
Bo Wallace had a hand in four touchdowns, scoring on runs of 1 and 58 yards and passing to Donte Moncrief for scores of 58 and 30 yards.
Moncrief had a career-high 161 receiving yards on six catches.
The defense held LSU to 3.8 yards per rush, and cornerback Senquez Golson had two interceptions.
Wallace threw three interceptions, and Korvic Neat turned the ball over on a muffed punt. LSU scored 13 points off turnovers, starting drives at the Ole Miss 36, 20 and 18.
Elsewhere in special teams, there was little production in the return game, and the punt team gave up an 89-yard return for a touchdown that changed momentum in the game.
Keys for Victory
1. Slow LSU in the run game: The Tigers ran better later in the game, but LSU’s Jeremy Hill worked for his yards. He scored three rushing touchdowns, but averaged just 3.8 yards per rush.
There was gang-tackling and good one-on-one tackling when players found themselves alone.
2. Execute in the passing game: A mixed bag of results here. Wallace’s interceptions led to easy points for LSU, but he also passed for 310 yards and two touchdowns against one of the top pass defenses in the country.
Moncrief showed what kind of weapon he can be with his best game since the eyes of Texas watched him gain 144 yards against the Longhorns.
3. Finish with touchdowns: Much better job here than against Vanderbilt when the Rebels’ inability to score TDs – settling instead for short field goals – cost them a win. The Rebels had three red zone chances and scored on two of them, both TDs.
Donte Moncrief. Other receivers had emerged over the last several games, true enough, but Moncrief is the leader, and it’s a dynamic Ole Miss offense when he’s making plays.
Reaching the Egg Bowl still in search of bowl eligibility was a predictable scenario after the Vanderbilt loss.
The revived run game will give the Rebels a good chance against their rivals provided they have the emotional stamina to get off the mat after losing a lead in the final 2 minutes for the third time this year.
