REWIND: Mississippi State (20-10, 6-3 SEC)

8TB6_MSU_primary_logoLooking back: The Diamond Dogs went 3-1 last week at home with a 3-2 midweek win over SE Missouri and claimed their third SEC series victory taking two games from Arkansas. MSU lost the series opener 4-0 against the Razorbacks but bounced back with a pair of 5-1 wins.

Looking ahead: The Bulldogs do not have a midweek game.

Rankings: State climbed seven spots to No. 9 in the Baseball America poll.

In the SEC: The Diamond Dogs travel to No. 20 LSU this weekend for a three-game set. Friday and Saturday’s games will begin at 6:30 p.m. televised on CSS and ESPNU respectively while Sunday’s first pitch is slated for 1 p.m.

MVP: Senior Derrick Armstrong went 8-for-15 at the plate with three runs batted in, a run scored and a stolen base last week.

Armstrong had six singles in eight at bats in Saturday’s doubleheader against Arkansas and has done a solid job filling in for the injured C.T. Bradford in centerfield. The Columbia, Tenn., native is second on the team with a .328 batting average and tied for the lead with nine steals.
