REWIND: Mississippi State (20-13, 6-6 SEC)

8TB6_MSU_primary_logoLooking back: The Diamond Dogs were swept and lost their first SEC series of the year at LSU. MSU was outscored 22-5 over the weekend being shutout 3-0 on Friday, losing 2-1 on Saturday and 17-4 on Sunday.

Looking ahead: The Bulldogs travel to Pearl to take on Southern Miss at Trustmark Park tonight at 6:30 p.m.

Rankings: State fell eight spots to No. 17 in the latest Baseball America rankings.

In the SEC: The Diamond Dogs host instate rival Ole Miss for Super Bulldog Weekend. Friday’s opener begins at 6:30 p.m. and Saturday’s first pitch will be at 3 p.m. on FSN. The finale on is slated for 1:30 p.m.

MVP: Brandon Woodruff threw a solid 4 1/3 shutout innings of relief on Friday night. Woodruff surrendered just two hits, had four strikeouts and most importantly did not walk anyone. The talented junior right-hander from Wheeler has struggled with command since returning from a 2013 arm injury. He has not allowed a run in his last 7.1 innings giving up just three hits and two walks and six strikeouts.
