Looking back: The Bulldogs lost a midweek game 2-1 to Jacksonville State at home on Wednesday but were able to bounce back on the road over the weekend. MSU swept Auburn in a three-game series outscoring the Tigers 18-1. The Diamond Dogs shutout Auburn 3-0 in the first two games and dominated the Sunday finale, 12-1.
Looking ahead: State does not have a midweek game scheduled the remainder of the regular season.
Rankings: The Bulldogs reentered Baseball America’s Top 25 at No. 21 following a one week absence.
In the SEC: Mississippi State hosts its final SEC series this weekend against Tennessee. Friday’s first pitch is at 6:30 p.m. while Saturday’s 6 p.m. game will be aired on FSN. The Sunday finale is at 1:30 p.m. on CBS Sports Network. The Diamond Dogs are in second place in the SEC West, one game behind Ole Miss.
MVP: Ross Mitchell threw a complete game shutout Saturday against Auburn earning SEC Co-Pitcher of the Week honors. Mitchell has been a workhorse for MSU all season and was again throwing 132 pitches and allowing just four hits. It was his fourth complete game of the season – all in conference play.
