Roundup: Late touchdown pass gives victory to Oxford

Glenn Gordon caught a 58-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Parker Adamson in the fourth quarter to lift Oxford to a 14-11 Division 1-5A road win against Clarksdale.
Oxford (10-1) will play Jackson Provine next week in the opening round of the state playoffs.
Clarksdale (4-7) led earlier in the quarter on a 32-yard field goal by Chris Carpenter.
Parker completed a 12-yard TD pass to Nick Brown in the first quarter to give the Chargers an early 7-0 lead.

West Point 38, New Hope 7: Aeries Williams scored on TD runs of 10 and 47 yards to lead the Green Wave (9-2) in its final Division 1-5A game.
West Point, which plays Yazoo City in the first round of the playoffs next week, also got two TD runs from Ladarious Patterson.
Starkville 21, Neshoba Central 10: Marlow Rogers sealed Starkville’s final regular-season win with a 16-yard pass interception return.
QB Gabe Myles had TD runs of 1 and 76 yards for the Jackets (8-3).

CLASS 2A playoffs
Calhoun City 50, O’Bannon 0: Calhoun City QB Chakel Gates passed for two TDs and rushed for another in the Wildcats’ 2A playoff opener.
Calhoun City (8-4) plays Mound Bayou JFK in the second round.
Gates hooked up for TDs covering 21 yards to Ryne Lee and 26 yards to Travone Petty. He added a 1-yard run.
Levarious Varnado returned a fumble 29 yards for a TD and Shaq Wright returned an interception 15 yards for a score.
Bruce 47, Simmons 13: Trojans quarterback Davis Brown completed 16 of 26 passes for 206 yards and three TDs in their first-round 2A win.
Bruce (9-3) plays East Webster next week in the second round.
Brown’s TD strikes went 55 yards to Tae Armstrong and 2 and 7 yards to Rashad Turner. Armstrong also scored on an 8-yard run and finished with 115 yards rushing.
South Delta 34, Baldwyn 0: The Bearcats (7-5) lost in their road Class 2A playoff opener.
East Webster 36, Strayhorn 6: The Wolverines (9-3), behind 227 yards rushing and two TDs from Deangelo Liggins, won their opener on the road.

CLASS 3A playoffs
Booneville 41, Ruleville 20: The Blue Devils (9-2) won their playoff opener behind the play of QB Jack Simpson, who passed for two TDs and rushed for one.
Zeus Rogers also scored on a 2-yard run and a 19-yard pass reception for Booneville, which plays Byhalia next week in the second round.
Aberdeen 54, Winona 42: Aberdeen (10-2) advanced to the second round thanks to a late 55-yard TD run by Joe Harrison.
QB Josh Williams passed for passed for three TDs and rushed for one for the Bulldogs, who will play McClain next week in the second round.
Byhalia 35, Mooreville 0: The Troopers (5-7) saw their season end with a road playoff loss.
Charleston 45, Mantachie 0: The Mustangs (5-7) fell in their opening-round Class 3A playoff road game.
Water Valley 41, North Panola 22: The Blue Devils (10-2) won their 3A playoff opener.
East Side 44, Kossuth 22: The Aggies (3-8) saw their season come to an end with a road loss.
McClain 34, Belmont 6: The Cardinals (6-4) lost on the road.

CLASS 4A playoffs
Lafayette 24, Greenwood 7: QB Brandon Mack threw a 43-yard TD pass to D.K. Buford and scored on an 8-yard run to lead the Commodores (10-2) to an opening-round win.
Yazoo County 35, North Pontotoc 14: The Vikings (6-6) suffered their first-round loss on the road.

ACADEMY playoffs
Calhoun Academy 36, Clinton Christian 30: A late touchdown and a game-ending interception by Danny Joe Norman clinched a victory in the state semifinals.
The Cougars play Russell Christian next week for the MAIS 8-Man state championship next week. Russell beat Calhoun 36-25 Oct. 19.
Marshall Academy 20, Canton Academy 7: Devin McGregor rushed for 94 yards on 17 carries and scored in the fourth quarter on an 8-yard run to give Marshall its MAIS Class AA win.
