Roundup: Oxford Chargers remain perfect with big home win

Oxford, the state’s No. 5-ranked team, remained unbeaten Friday with a 37-7 victory against visiting Saltillo in Division 1-5A action.
The Chargers (9-0, 5-0) clinched the win on two third-quarter touchdowns – one a 21-yard pass to Joey Waldon from Parker Adamson and the other a 1-yard run by the Oxford QB.
Juan Edwards and K.T. McCollin both recorded safeties for the Chargers.
Saltillo (5-4, 2-3) scored on a 3-yard run by QB Andrew Soper in the second quarter.
Oxford travels to West Point next week with the division championship up for grabs.
New Albany 35, Rosa Fort 14: Boston Newsome rushed for 214 yards on 31 carries and scored 4 TDs to lead the Bulldogs to a 2-4A victory.
The win clinched the division title for New Albany (6-4, 4-0).
Newsome scored on runs of 4, 6, 22 and 49 yards. Spencer Day hooked up with J.T. Moore on a 19-yard TD pass for the Bulldogs’ other points.
Corinth 14, Pontotoc 11: Brady Allen threw a 14-yard pass to Brice Spence, then scored on a 2-yard run to lead Corinth (7-2, 2-2) to a 1-4A win.
Pontotoc (4-6, 1-3), which suffered four second-half turnovers, scored with 6:42 left on a fourth-and-5 40-yard pass to Alex Franklin to Marcus Reed. Jeb Millender added a 41-yard field goal for Pontotoc.
Potts Camp 45, Benton County 0: QB Jordan Harris had 135 all-purpose yards and accounted for four TDs to lead the Cardinals (8-1).
Harris scored on runs of 22, 25 and 32 yards, and threw 12 yards to Brantley Harris in the first half. Jamarquis Forster and Ray Maxey added tackles for safeties while Joseph Folsom added a 2-yard TD run.
Calhoun City 49, Hatley 0: Cartin McBride and Lavarious Varnado scored two TDs apiece to lead the Wildcats (6-4, 3-1) to a 1-2A win.
McBride scored on runs of 35 and 54 yards while Varnado had a 36-yard run and caught a 36-yard pass from Chakel Gates.
Also for the Wildcats, Jordan Pratt caught a 25-yard TD strike from Jaalen Thomas and Ryne Lee returned a fumble 1-yard.
Vardaman 47, Houlka 0: QB Cody Jenkins rushed for three touchdowns and passed for two to power the Rams (6-3) to a 1-1A victory.
Jenkins scored on two 1-yard runs and a 14-yarder. He threw a 6-yard TD strike to James Avant and a 22-yarder to Tae West.
Mooreville 14, South Pontotoc 7: Josh Johnson scored on a 3-yard run in the second quarter and Robert Patton caught a 60-yard pass from Tay Rucker to lead the Troopers (4-6, 1-3) to their first 2-3A win.
Josh Estes caught a 15-yard fourth-quarter TD pass from Evan Kidd for the Cougars (1-9).
Shannon 62, Tishomingo County 11: Diamante Pounds scored on runs of 4, 6, 13 and 18 yards to lead Shannon (3-6, 2-2) to a 1-4A win.
Chavis Dillworth added a 3-yard TD run and caught two scoring passes of 18 and 34 yards.
West Point 55, Center Hill 7: Tez Lane scored three TDs, one on a 25-yard run in the first quarter, to lead the Green Wave (7-2, 5-0).
Lane added scoring runs of 4 and 28 yards in the first half. Demontae Rush added 1 and 8-yard TD runs.
Bruce 48, Okolona 0: Zay Armstrong and Zack Cruthirds scored two TDs apiece and Jonothan Bobo returned an interception 52 yards in the Trojans’ 1-2A win.
Davis Brown completed 10 of 19 for 198 yards, 2 TD for Bruce (9-2, 4-0). Cruthirds added 105 yards rushing.
Lafayette 23, Senatobia 7: Lafayette QB Brandon Mack scored on runs of 1 and 9 yards to lead the Commodores (8-2, 3-1) to a 2-4A win.
Russell Christian 36, Calhoun Academy 25: Russell won the MAIA District 5 title in a battle of the unbeatens. The Warriors (10-0) and Cougars (9-1) both qualified for the postseason.
Marshall Academy 27, Pillow Academy 6: Marshall’s Dakota Dailey was 12 for 18 passing for 195 yards and TDs to Aaron McAlexander, who had had eight catches for 156 yards and also intercepted three passes for the Patriots (7-2).
East Webster 24, Hamilton 0: The host Wolverines (8-2) put the game out of reach with a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns, a 32-yard pass from Deangelo Liggins to McKinley Hollenhead and a 43-yard interception return by Chase Keller
