The Tupelo 49ers, powered by Hudson Roy’s bat, defeated Blue Springs, Mo., 5-4 Friday in the second round of the Senior American Legion Mid-South Regional in North Little Rock, Ark.
Roy’s RBI double in the top of the ninth inning proved to be the game winner for Tupelo (21-9), which plays Columbia, Tenn., today in the third round of the winner’s bracket.
Roy hit a two-run homer in the 49ers’ four-run first inning. Blue Springs tied the score at 4-4 with a four-run third inning.
Michael Hensley was the winning pitcher in relief for Tupelo. He replaced starter McKamy Smith and worked 61⁄3 innings, striking out six.
Tanner Poole, Russell Johnson, Destin Hahn and Roy had two h its apiece for the 49ers.
