TUPELO – The football stadium at Saltillo High School will now be named after Willis Wright, who coached the Tigers from 1973 until 1980. The Lee County School Board approved on Tuesday night a resolution to name the stadium after the man whose teams went 65-17-2 with four consecutive Tombigbee Conference titles.
Wright, a member of the Mississippi Coaches Hall of Fame, also coached at Nettleton, Starkville and several other schools in Mississippi and Alabama. One of those stops was South Panola, where Wright helped the Tigers begin their recent dominance of Mississippi high school football.
Saltillo will highlight the name change during a ceremony at halftime of its Sep. 9 game against Booneville.
