HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) — University of Southern Mississippi graduate Chuck Scianna has given $350,000 to establish an endowment that will provide three annual scholarships in honor of former athletics director Jeff Hammond, and his wife, Diane.
Jeff Hammond is a retired major general in the United States Army and former Golden Eagle quarterback for USM from 1976-78. He currently serves as special assistant to the President for Military and Veterans Student Affairs at USM.
The scholarships are awarded to individuals that best demonstrate the attributes of duty, honor, dignity and respect. The 2013 recipients were football players Cole Weeks, Dominique Sullivan and Michael Smith.
Scianna is president of Sim-Tex L.P., as leading suppliers of API-certified oil country tubular goods. USM’s new College of Business building is Scianna Hall in his honor.
