SEC honors Ballard, Mathieu, Adams

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Mississippi State running back Vick Ballard, LSU cornerback Tyrann Mathieu and Arkansas return man Joe Adams are Southeastern Conference players of the week.

Ballard rushed for a career-high 166 yards and three touchdowns at Memphis.

Mathieu led LSU with 10 tackles and scored on a fumble return in a win over Oregon.

Adams tied an SEC record with two punt returns for touchdowns in Arkansas’ 51-7 win over Missouri State. The last SEC player to accomplish the feat was Kentucky’s Derek Abney against Mississippi State in 2002.

The SEC offensive lineman of the week is South Carolina tackle Rokevious Watkins. Defensive line honors were shared by Florida’s Jaye Howard and Kentucky’s Luke McDermott.

Alabama linebacker Trey DePriest and Auburn running back/return man Tre Mason are co-freshmen of the week.
