SOFTBALL: Nettleton set for speedy St. Patrick

Two-time defending Class 3A champ Nettleton hopes to send head coach Chris Kidd out a winner in the MHSAA championship series that begins today at Freedom Ridge Park in Ridgeland.
Kidd has said he will retire from coaching after the season.
Nettleton (23-1) will send Michele Hester and her microscopic 0.39 ERA to the mound to face South champion St. Patrick (23-5).
Nettleton catcher Hayley Parker, who’s hitting .456, will be tested by a St. Patrick lineup that has 99 stolen bases this spring.
First pitch is set for 10 a.m. Game 2 and 3, if needed, will be played starting at 11 a.m. Saturday.
In Class 1A, West Union (18-9) opens its series against defending champion Bogue Chitto (21-7) at 1 p.m. today at Freedom Ridge Park.
Game 2 and 3, if needed, will also be played starting at 11 a.m. Saturday.
West Union reached the finals in dramatic fashion, losing 11-4 to Smithville in the first game of the North finals before rallying for a pair of 5-4 victories last Saturday. The Lady Eagles scored the winning run its their final at-bat in each game.
