South Panola tops Tupelo in baseball

BATESVILLE – South Panola took advantage of five Tupelo errors to defeat the Golden Wave, 6-1, in Division 2-5A baseball Thursday night.
The win forced those teams and Starkville into a three-way tie for first place in division play. Tupelo will be the No. 1 team from the group for the state playoffs by winning the tiebreaker (run differential).
South Panola (15-7, 6-3), which was held to two hits, scored three runs in the first and three more in the fifth to break the game open. SP ace David Renfroe limited Tupelo to three hits.
Tupelo (19-6, 6-3) will play at DeSoto Central on Monday night, then will host a three-team state tournament regional next Friday. DeSoto Central and Grenada will also participate, and will play on Thursday to determine the April 24 schedule.
