Southern Miss and Rice play for CUSA title

HATTIESBURG – Southern Miss and No. 11 Rice will play for the Conference USA championship today at 10 a.m., a start time that was changed due to the threat of rain.
Both fifth-seeded Southern Miss (35-22) and top-seeded Rice (38-15) went unbeaten in their brackets to set up the title match.
The Golden Eagles came into the tournament feeling they needed to win the title in order to secure a seventh consecutive trip to the NCAA Regionals. Head coach Corky Palmer will retire at season’s end.
“Rice is playing well,” Palmer said. “But we’re playing at Pete Taylor Park, so let’s see what happens.”
Rice beat Southern Miss here twice in a weekend series back in March.
