HATTIESBURG – Southern Mississippi has promoted assistant Scott Berry to head baseball coach, replacing Corky Palmer.
Berry has been Palmer’s top assistant for the last nine seasons. His main responsibility has been working with the pitching staff.
Palmer, who has guided the Golden Eagles to a school-record six straight NCAA regional appearances, says he’ll retire at the end of the season.
Athletics Director Richard Giannini announced Berry’s promotion on Thursday. Giannini said Berry has been a big part of the six consecutive NCAA regional appearances.
After talking with dozens of current and former players, Giannini said it was obvious Berry was the right person to take over for Palmer.
