Southern Miss sets practice dates for football

HATTIESBURG – Southern Miss will open its preseason football camp next Wednesday, in preparation for a Sept. 5 kickoff against Alcorn State.
It’s the second season for head coach Larry Fedora, who returns 19 starters from a 7-6 campaign that saw Southern Miss beat Troy 30-27 in overtime at the New Orleans Bowl.
In a vote of Conference USA media, the team was picked to finish second in the C-USA East Division behind East Carolina. Houston is the overall league favorite.
The Golden Eagles’ practices will be closed to the public. The 14th annual Fan Fare will be Saturday, Aug. 8 starting at 5 p.m.
