HATTIESBURG — Southern Miss will open the 2010 season in the spotlight.
The Golden Eagles will travel to South Carolina for a Thursday game on Sept. 2 — the first day of the season next year. ESPN will televise the game.
Southern Miss athletic director Richard Giannini called the game “a huge opportunity” in a statement because of the tremendous attention the season-opening game usually draws.
The Golden Eagles were to play Southeastern Louisiana on Sept. 4, but will now try to reschedule for later in the season or put the game off to another year.
It will be the first game between South Carolina and Southern Miss.
