Southern Mississippi tops Rice in overtime

HOUSTON – Gary Flowers scored 24 points, including six in overtime, to lead Southern Mississippi to an 81-78 victory over Rice on Wednesday.
Flowers made a layup with about a minute to go in OT to bring the Golden Eagles (13-3, 2-1 C-USA) within 78-77.
Sai’Quon Stone then hit a jumper to put the Golden Eagles ahead and Flowers made a pair of free throws down the stretch to clinch the win.
LaShay Page added 15 points for Southern Mississippi while R.L. Horton and D.J. Newbill scored 11 each.
