Rick Stansbury, the former Mississippi State men’s basketball coach, has agreed to become an assistant on Billy Kennedy’s staff at Texas A&M.

Stansbury has been out of basketball since announcing his retirement at the end of the 2012 season. He posted a 293-165 record in 14 seasons with the Bulldogs.

The 54-year-old Stansbury reportedly had interest in the Auburn coaching job that was filled by Bruce Pearl.

Kennedy is 49-47 in three seasons at A&M. The Aggies went 18-16 last season.
