FULTON – Johnathon Brandon of New Hope knocked down a pair of free throws in the final seconds of the East’s 65-60 win in the Class 3A/4A/5A/6A boys game to complete the sweep of the West in the sixth annual Northeast Mississippi Basketball Coaches Association All-Star games at ICC on Saturday.
Edward Townsel (Starkville) earned MVP honors with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Jeremy Foster (Tupelo) was named offensive player of the game with 15 points while Brandon Blake (Oxford) earned defensive player of the game honors and scored 14 points for the West.
Starkville’s Kala Williams and Shay Bonner connected on three of four free throws in the final 30 seconds of the Class 3A/4A/5A/6A girls game to lift the East to a 56-53 victory.
West All-Star Brittani Smith (Oxford) missed a last-second three allowing the East to hold on for the victory.
Bonner scored 15 points to earn offensive player of the game honors while Anna Brooke Paige (Belmont) scored nine points and was named defensive player of the game.
West All-Star Phylisha Fondren (Lafayette) scored 10 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, dished out four assists and blocked two shots to earn MVP honors.
The East All-Stars held off a late rally to defeat the West 60-49 in the Class 1A/2A girls game.
Bree Harris (New Site) earned offensive player of the game honors with her game-high 17 points for the East.
East All-Star Lauren Ross (Biggersville) scored 11 and was named defensive player of the game while West All-Star Candiace McIntosh (Houlka) took home MVP honors with her 13-point, 10-rebound performance.
The Class 1A/2A East boys picked up a 61-51 victory in the second game of the day.
Zach Carnell (Ingomar) took home MVP honors with his 17-point, 10-rebound performance for the East.
East All-Star Matt Purvis (Ingomar) scored 16 points to earn offensive player of the game while Miles Finely (Pine Grove) scored six points and was named defensive player of the game for the West.
Charlie Easley (Calhoun City) paced the West with 11 points.
