State school association elects new director

JACKSON — Gulf Coast educator and consultant Don Hinton has been elected the new executive director of the Mississippi High School Activities Association.

The group’s executive committee voted Wednesday for Hinton to succeed current director Ennis Proctor on July 1, 2011.

Hinton has been involved in education since 1977, serving as a teacher, coach, athletic administrator, principal and private consultant.

MHSAA President Lonnie Tillman said that Hinton recognizes the important of school activities as a dropout prevention tool.

The MHSAA is a nonprofit run by its 574 members schools. The organization is responsible for academic and athletic competitions.
