State tennis tournaments begin today in Jackson

The 2012 MHSAA state tennis championships begin play today with players from six classifications playing matches for individual state titles at three locations in the Jackson area.
The 3A and 6A tournament is being played today and Tuesday at Bridges Tennis Center in Jackson while the 4A and 5A event is scheduled for play at the Ridgeland Tennis Center. The 1A and 2A tournament is being played at Mississippi College in Clinton.
The team championships in the six classes will be played Wednesday at Millsaps (1A and 6A), Clinton’s Brighton Park (2A and 5A) and Mississippi College (3A and 4A).
The state golf tournaments are scheduled to be played Tuesday-Wednesday in five of the six classes and Wednesday-Thursday in 5A.
Two of the 36-hole events will be played in Northeast Mississippi: 1A at Big Oaks and 2A at the Natchez Trace. Baldwyn, the 2A host, is seeking its third straight state title.
In 6A at Hattiesburg’s Canebreak, Tupelo looks to win its fifth consecutive state championship.
