Sword leads Alabama boys past Mississippi, 109-104

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Carver guard Craig Sword scored 36 points in Alabama’s 109-104 win Friday night in the Alabama-Mississippi High School All-Star boys basketball game at Alabama State University’s Dunn-Oliver Acadome.

Sword, a Mississippi State signee, also had nine rebounds, five steals and three assists to earn Alabama MVP honors.

Brandon Moss of Midfield added 18 points and Alabama erased a 70-58 deficit in the final 11 minutes.

Enterprise’s Rhett Harrelson hit six straight free throws in the final minute and had 14 points. Bob Jones’ Jeffrey Moss had 13 points.

Devonte Pollard, from Kemper County, led Mississippi with 20 points and 15 rebounds and some powerful dunks as he won Mississippi MVP honors.

Raeford Worsham of Wayne County added 17 points. Gavin Ware of Starkville and Fred Thomas of Jim Hill High School, both Mississippi State signees, had 15 points apiece.

Mississippi and Alabama are now tied at 11 wins.
