Three USM football signees won't join team

HATTIESBURG — Three signees from this year’s Southern Miss football recruiting class will not be with the Golden Eagles this season.

Team officials say Gulfport defensive lineman Cortez Hartzog, Tuscaloosa, Ala., tight end Keivondre Watford and Pearl River Community College receiver Jhyryn Taylor will not be part of the team.

The 6-foot-4, 270-pound Hartzog will play for Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.

Watford, a 6-foot-4, 210-pound athlete, will be at East Central Community College this season.

Taylor is a former member of the LSU football team who is looking to land elsewhere after failing to qualify academically.
